Nikola Ćeranić arrested in Brazil for crimes against Bosniaks in Trebinje

Brazilian authorities arrested a man on Saturday for whom an arrest warrant was issued for war crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, world agencies report, according to the Patria News Agency.

According to the statement from the Brazilian Prosecutor's Office, the police arrested Nikola Ćeranić (47) in the city of Indaiatuba, about 45 kilometers northwest of Sao Paulo.

Interpol had issued a red notice for Ćeranić for "war crimes against the civilian population," related to crimes in the Trebinje area. It is not known how long he had been living in Brazil.

On June 24, the Brazilian Ministry of Justice submitted an extradition request to the Supreme Court, sent by Bosnia and Herzegovina, after which the search for the fugitive began. According to Brazilian law, the Supreme Court is competent for all extradition requests.
