Tuzla DF demands police immediately release unionists Sakib Kopić and Enes Tanović

The Cantonal Committee of the Democratic Front of Tuzla Canton has demanded that the Ministry of Interior of Tuzla Canton immediately release from custody the leaders of the Solidarity Union, Sakib Kopić and Enes Tanović, who were arrested this morning in Tuzla.

"Regarding the information about the arrest of the leaders of the Solidarity Union, Sakib Kopić and Enes Tanović, we ultimatively demand from the competent structures of the Ministry of Interior of Tuzla Canton their release, and the determination of responsibility of those who ordered the execution of these obviously illegal acts of violence and repression against their own citizens, disenfranchised workers and union leaders," states the DF's reaction.

Kopić and Tanović were arrested this morning in Tuzla and are currently in the premises of the Police Station Center of the Tuzla Police Department. The unionists were with other workers at traditional protests in front of the seat of judicial institutions in this city, when the police arrested them and took them to the police station.

The Ministry of Interior of Tuzla Canton has still not issued an official explanation as to why Kopić and Tanović were arrested.

"We demand from the competent police structures to finally start doing their job of protecting citizens and their rights, and to direct their attention to the 'real estate lovers' sitting in the Government of Tuzla Canton, and other persons well known to the public with criminal tendencies and habits, who are part of the ruling structures. Otherwise, the Democratic Front of Tuzla Canton will consider the possibility of resistance – by all means against the illegal rampage of individuals under state protection who have privatized all public institutions, including the structures of the Ministry of Interior of Tuzla Canton, and who have long since stepped outside the boundaries of the law and the Constitution, thus losing both legality and legitimacy," states the sharp reaction of the Tuzla DF.

"For the last time, we call on the competent judicial institutions to determine responsibility for such flagrant violation of human rights and freedoms, abuse of position and privatization of public institutions, which has suspended all rights and freedoms of citizens who will, otherwise, have to organize themselves to protect their constitutionally guaranteed rights," they further state from this party, adding that they will inform the domestic and international public about the events in Tuzla, including the institutions of the European Union, and the embassies of democratic friendly countries in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in order to consider the possibility of legitimate sanctions against those who have exceeded their authority, NAP reports.
