Prosecutor Tadić Receives Original Report on Missing Weapons and Ammunition from Border Police

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina have submitted the original report on the disappearance of sniper rifles and other equipment from the Border Police to the Chief State Prosecutor Gordana Tadić.

The Director of the Border Police, Zoran Galić, reported the disappearance of optical sights / sniper rifles/ from the Border Police to the BiH Prosecutor's Office - following pressure from the media and state representative Hanka Vajzović. A group of officials from that state police agency suspects that Galić did not provide complete information to the Prosecutor's Office, so they submitted the original report from December 2017 to Prosecutor Tadić.

The letter states: "Given that we had deep doubts about the documentation provided to you by Director Galić, we wrote you a letter in which we stated what you should pay attention to during the checks, so that the investigation does not go in the wrong direction."

In addition to sniper rifles, the original report also mentions other material and technical resources missing from the Border Police. Thus, it is stated, the Commission determined that a set for covert Motorola operation, a set for covert audio surveillance, a portable lighting system, and several thousand rounds of ammunition are missing from the Border Police warehouse. During the inventory, the commission, it is stated, also found equipment without inventory numbers, such as a mobile network jamming device.

"Officials Mijo Pejić and Rejhan Rakovac managed that equipment. Mijo Pejić abruptly left the Border Police at the moment when talk began about the missing equipment," it is stated in the letter to Prosecutor Tadić, shown for inspection to the media.

There is no clear documentation on where several thousand rounds of ammunition from the Border Police, used in exercises, and whose unused surpluses were not returned to the Border Police warehouse, have disappeared.

Pressure for Reporting Irregularities

The BiH Prosecutor's Office received the report on the disappearance of equipment from the Border Police on April 19. More than a month later, the Prosecutor's Office is unwilling to comment on the stage of the case. In the meantime, there is talk of pressure from the management of the BiH Border Police on officials who noticed and reported irregularities.

"Zoran Galić and Vladimir Popović initiated disciplinary proceedings against the head of the Central Investigation Office, Semir Pašanbegović, the head of the Department for Covert Operations, Muamer Fazlagić, and the inspector who wrote the report on the disappearance of sniper rifles from the Border Police, Edin Mulaomerović," the letter to the Prosecutor's Office states.

"The reports from Galić and Popović indicate that they want to divert the investigation from the core of the crime," it is further stated.

Despite the serious accusations, the Council of Ministers of BiH appointed Zoran Galić to a new, second term as head of the BiH Border Police at the beginning of May. The Minister of Security of BiH, Dragan Mektić, avoided proposing Galić to the Council of Ministers for a new term in the Border Police, so instead of Mektić, the procedure was carried out by the Independent Board of the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
