USK Prosecutor's Office: Minor entered duty room with a knife where two police officers were present, had clothing item over face

(Patria) - The USK Prosecutor's Office issued an official press release regarding the attack that occurred last night at the Bosanska Krupa Police Station.

"Yesterday, at 8:40 PM, an unknown person with a clothing item covering half of their face entered the Bosanska Krupa Police Station, and then the duty room where two police officers were present at the time, and attacked them without any provocation with a cold weapon – a knife. He inflicted chest injuries on one police officer, who later died, and abdominal and head injuries on the other. At that moment, other police officers entered the premises, subdued the attacker, and arrested him. It was determined that the attacker is a minor from the area of Bosanska Krupa, born in 2009.

The duty prosecutor of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of the Una-Sana Canton was informed about the event, who immediately went to the scene and under whose supervision the members of the Criminal Police Sector of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Una-Sana Canton conducted an investigation until 00:30 AM.

Last night, a search of the minor attacker's family home was also carried out, during which items that could be used as evidence in further criminal proceedings were seized.

Given the immediate findings at the scene, which indicate that the motive for this criminal offense was an attack on an institution, specifically a police station as an authority, with the aim of intimidating the population, the duty prosecutor of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of the Una-Sana Canton qualified this offense as Terrorism under Article 201, Paragraph 3, in conjunction with Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of the Federation of BiH.

We want to emphasize that the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of the Una-Sana Canton, given the nature of this offense and the perpetrator's characteristics, will prioritize this case and that all actions will be carried out urgently, and that several police agencies are already involved in the work. The Center for Social Work Bosanska Krupa is also involved and will conduct a social anamnesis of the minor and his family circumstances.

The minor attacker has been deprived of liberty, and a defense attorney will be appointed to him ex officio who has a certificate for handling cases where the suspect is a minor. He will be brought to the Prosecutor's Office where he will be questioned in accordance with the Law on Protection and Treatment of Children and Minors in Criminal Proceedings, after which the prosecutor will decide on further actions," the USK Prosecutor's Office announced.
