Prosecutor's Office of Tuzla Canton seeks one month detention for arrested police officer, court to decide tomorrow

TUZLA, (Patria) - The hearing for determining detention for the arrested police officer T.O., a member of the Tuzla Canton Ministry of Interior, has concluded.

The Prosecutor's Office of Tuzla Canton today requested a one-month detention for police officer T.O., who was deprived of liberty on suspicion of the criminal offense of "abuse in office."

The Municipal Court in Tuzla will make a decision tomorrow, while the defense strongly opposes the imposition of such measures.

We remind that the police officer was arrested three days after he had deprived Mujaga Begić, the husband of Tuzla Canton Prosecutor's Office prosecutor Mirzeta Begić, of liberty due to a public order disturbance.

Tatjana Savić, the lawyer of the arrested police officer, who was also awarded for exceptional results in his work, with special emphasis on his contribution to the protection of personal and property safety of citizens, said yesterday that the Prosecutor's Office of Tuzla Canton flagrantly violated the presumption of innocence, because the Prosecutor's Office informs the public that the prosecutor's husband is an exemplary citizen, while the police officers are violent.

"That is not true if you read the statement of the suspect as well as the statement of the other police officer. If the situation were reversed and the defense had commented on a witness in this manner, the Prosecutor's Office would immediately initiate proceedings for influencing a witness and request detention," Savić emphasizes.
