Prosecutor's Office of TK still questioning witnesses regarding charges against Denis Prcić and AU in BiH

TUZLA, (Patria) - In the case of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Tuzla Canton, formed based on criminal charges against the president of the American University in BiH Denis Prcić, the acting prosecutor and investigators of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of TK are undertaking a series of investigative actions, the Prosecutor's Office of Tuzla Canton responded to the inquiry of the News Agency Patria.

“Extensive relevant material documentation from the University has been seized and is subject to analysis by the acting prosecutor. A larger number of individuals have been interviewed as witnesses, and the questioning of certain witnesses is still ongoing. Numerous other investigative actions are being carried out in the case to establish all circumstances related to the criminal charges. Denis Prcić, as the president of the American University in BiH, is currently listed as a reported person in this case, and it is being determined whether there are grounds for suspicion that he, as a responsible person, committed the criminal offense of abuse of position and authority,” stated the Prosecutor's Office of TK.

The complete material documentation, including student diplomas, as evidence, is still with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of TK and under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of TK.

“After all necessary checks and investigative actions are completed, a prosecutorial decision will be made in this case,” stated the Prosecutor's Office of TK.

We remind you that in the second half of November 2020, searches were conducted at the University premises and a private apartment, where printed student diplomas were found.

The founder and president of AU in BiH, Denis Prcić, in emails he sent to students, demanded an additional payment of 1,500 KM for alleged reaccreditation, which led to the suspension of diploma issuance. Students who refused to pay the requested amount reported Prcić to the Prosecutor's Office of TK.

At the end of October 2020, Prcić voluntarily requested the withdrawal of accreditation from the American accreditation body ACICS, as students had also filed a complaint with ACICS, which had begun an investigation. The investigation into the American University in BiH is also being conducted by the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, as well as the Prosecutor's Office of KS. Several years ago, SIPA submitted an extensive report to the Prosecutor's Office of KS. Numerous irregularities were found in the operations of this university, which had been operating and enrolling students in Sarajevo within the KS for years, despite not having a license to operate. AU in BiH in Sarajevo founded the Higher Education Institution “American School of Economics,” but students were enrolled in other faculties registered in TK.

The operation of AU in BiH in the TK region was also not under adequate supervision by the Ministry of Education, which had not conducted any supervision for 15 years, as determined by the Cantonal Inspectorate of TK.
