Prosecution considers whether there are grounds for appeal against Šešelj verdict

The Prosecution takes note of today's verdict. We fully understand that many victims and communities will be disappointed by the Trial Chamber's verdict, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia said, as reported by Patria.

- We will carefully study the reasoning of the Trial Chamber that led to this outcome, including the dissenting opinion and the conclusions of the Trial Chamber that deviate from the consistent practice of the Tribunal. We will then decide whether there are grounds for an appeal against the verdict. It should be recalled that an indictment and arrest warrant are in force for three of Šešelj's associates, including two members of his defence team, for allegations of threats, intimidation, offering bribes or otherwise influencing two Prosecution witnesses.

In addition, Šešelj has been convicted three times for contempt of court for disclosing the identity of protected Prosecution witnesses, and for those offences he was sentenced to a total of 4 years and 9 months in prison - said the ICTY.
