Prosecution halted investigation against Almir Merdić, suspected of attacking Vučić in Potočari

The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has halted the investigation against Almir Merdić (41) from Jelaha, one of the main suspects for the attack on Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić during the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica last year.
This information was confirmed by Merdić himself in a statement to the Patria news agency.

Serbian intelligence services declared him the main organizer of the attack on Vučić on July 11 in Potočari, when a group of hooligans moved toward the column in which the Serbian prime minister was located.

Merdić denied any connection with extremists, but nevertheless became the subject of an extensive investigation that investigators conducted for an entire year.

- I am a patriot. As soon as I turned 18 in 1993, I joined the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. But I see nothing wrong with that; on the contrary, I am proud because I defended my country and my people. I did not commit crimes; I fought honestly for my country. As for Vučić, the attack, organizing the incident, I did not think about that even in my deepest dreams - Merdić told Patria just two days after the events in Potočari, adding that he goes to Srebrenica every year to pay tribute to the victims of the genocide, not to cause scandals.

Merdić said that the accusations against him that lasted the past year caused numerous problems for his family and himself, Patria writes.
