Canton Sarajevo Prosecutor's Office reviews Minister Vranić's allegations about doctors taking money from patients

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Canton Sarajevo Prosecutor's Office responded to a parliamentary question by Haris Zahiragić and confirmed that it has opened a criminal case regarding the statement of the Minister of Health of Canton Sarajevo, Haris Vranić, at the session of the Assembly of Canton Sarajevo on December 6.

"The Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Canton Sarajevo received a criminal complaint and opened a criminal case regarding the statement of the Minister of Health of Canton Sarajevo, Haris Vranić, dated December 6, 2021. The acting prosecutor of this Prosecutor's Office will, in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, take necessary actions to verify all allegations of the criminal complaint, all with the aim of reaching a final prosecutorial decision," the response states.

Zahiragić requested the Prosecutor's Office of Canton Sarajevo to examine all allegations made by Minister Vranić at the 45th working session of the Assembly of Canton Sarajevo and determine their veracity, and in case of establishing their truth, to sanction those responsible for abuse of position, negligent work in service, and other forms of corrupt criminal acts.

Speaking at the 45th working session of the Assembly of Canton Sarajevo, Minister Vranić said: "I will openly tell you that we healthcare workers know which colleagues take money from patients and remain silent."

In his address to the Prosecutor's Office of Canton Sarajevo, Zahiragić states that these serious accusations have disturbed the public, but are also a kind of confession coming from the relevant minister, and he believes that as a society we should take them extremely seriously.

"Given the above, I call on the Prosecutor's Office of Canton Sarajevo to question Minister Vranić about all allegations, and to determine their veracity, and in case of establishing their truth, to sanction those responsible for abuse of position, negligent work in service, and other forms of corrupt criminal acts."
