Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton Issues Correction: Investigation into the Murder of Dženan Memić Opened on March 7

The Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton informs the public that an error occurred while drafting a letter sent to the parents of the murdered Dženan Memić, with the date of the investigation opening stated as 07.04.2016 instead of 07.03.2016, the Prosecutor's Office of KS announced, reports the Patria News Agency.

The error was noticed after parts of the letter were published in some media outlets, but not delivered by this Prosecutor's Office.

Therefore, we are obliged to react and correct the mentioned typing error, after the father of the murdered Dženan Memić stated to some media that the investigation was opened only on 07.04.2016, the day before peaceful protests regarding the murder of Dženan Memić.

That this was an error is confirmed by the press release published on the website of the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton on 09.03.2016, the statement reads.

Twenty-two-year-old Dženan Memić sustained life-threatening injuries on February 8 in Velika aleja on Ilidža, and died on February 15 at the UKCS. When he was attacked, he was in the company of his girlfriend Alisa Mutap, who also sustained injuries. To this day, the circumstances under which he sustained the injuries that led to his death have not been clarified.

Initially, it was suggested that he was hit by a car, but the investigation determined that the injuries were caused by a blow, meaning he was attacked and beaten. The motives for this heinous crime are unknown, and several individuals were brought in during the investigation and released after questioning. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of KS and the Prosecutor's Office of KS are working to shed light on this criminal offense.

Members of the murdered young man's family, friends, and citizens gathered on April 8 and expressed their dissatisfaction through a peaceful walk from SCC to the Prosecutor's Office of KS due to the slow pace of the investigation and the failure to identify the perpetrators of this murder.

- We will repeat the protests, and I responsibly claim that we will be more numerous and more organized than today - said Muriz Memić, the father of the murdered young man at the time, emphasizing that this case must not be forgotten and that he wants the perpetrators of his son's death to be found.
