KS Prosecutor's Office: Only the Federal Prosecutor's Office can oversee our work in the Memić case

The Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton, in response to public appearances and statements by certain executive and legislative officials in Sarajevo Canton regarding the murder of Dženan Memić, has officially issued a press release stating that such statements cannot influence the investigation into this criminal offense, which is being conducted by the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton as the sole competent authority, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, reports Patria.

- We call on all officials to be guided by respect for the law and the interests of the rule of law in their statements and conclusions, which is also their obligation. Any other behavior by executive and legislative officials constitutes disrespect for the law, confusion for citizens regarding their powers and jurisdictions, and obstruction of the investigation.

At the same time, we remind that this does not apply to the Initiative adopted in the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton, which, among other things, requested the formation of an investigative committee to oversee the legality of the work of the Police Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton in the case of the murder of Dženan Memić.

The legality of the actions of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton in this case and the oversight of its work can only be carried out by the Federal Prosecutor's Office, in accordance with Article 9 of the Law on the Federal Prosecutor's Office of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Official Gazette of FBiH 19/03).
