FBiH Prosecutor's Office Urges Urgent Action in Detecting Crimes of Causing Forest Fires

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Prosecutor's Office of the Federation of BiH has sent a letter to all cantonal prosecutor's offices for urgent undertaking of necessary actions and measures in cases of detecting perpetrators of criminal acts of causing forest fires, causing general danger, and other criminal acts prescribed by the Criminal Code of the FBiH, due to the large number of forest fires.

Given that fires cause incalculable damage to the forest ecosystem in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a more efficient approach to comprehensive protection of forest resources from fires is sought.

In a press release, they call on all citizens, especially private landowners adjacent to forests, not to light fires in or near forests, and if they notice a fire or have information about the perpetrator, to report it to the nearest police station or other competent authority, thus contributing to the detection of perpetrators of illegal acts, i.e., the suppression of harmful consequences.

The Federal Prosecutor's Office also supports other measures proposed to the Council of Ministers of BiH and other competent ministries of BiH and FBiH in the "Request for Urgent Action," which was sent by the Association of Forestry Engineers and Technicians of FBiH, and which was also submitted to this Prosecutor's Office on April 13, 2020, especially those related to the adoption of the law on forests of FBiH, bearing in mind that this Prosecutor's Office, several years ago, also submitted an initiative in that direction to the Ministry of Justice of FBiH.
