Prosecutor's Office of BiH leads investigation against 70 individuals linked to terrorism, foreign battlefields, recruitment...

Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, Goran Salihović, informed members of the Strike Force for Combating Terrorism at a meeting in Sarajevo about current activities in the fight against terrorism and planned activities in the upcoming period.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH is conducting intensive investigations against several dozen individuals, citizens of BiH, who are located on foreign battlefields in Syria and Iraq, and who, according to operational information, are leaving those areas. Therefore, in cooperation with partner agencies, intensive efforts are being made to locate them and extradite them to BiH for proceedings related to the aforementioned criminal offense, the Prosecutor's Office of BiH announced, as reported by the Bosnian news agency Patria.

In the past period, significant cooperation has been achieved with the Republic of Turkey in this segment, as a certain number of individuals who were on the battlefields in Syria and Iraq are held in prisons in that country.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH, together with partner police and security agencies, is working on investigations in 33 cases involving 70 individuals suspected of criminal offenses of organizing a terrorist group, public incitement to terrorist activities, recruitment for terrorist activities, illegal formation and joining of foreign paramilitary or parapolice formations, criminal offenses of terrorism, and criminal offenses related to terrorist activities.

To date, indictments have been filed against 20 individuals linked to the battlefields in Syria and Iraq, and two more indictments are expected soon.

Several citizens of BiH located in that area have contacted police and judicial agencies with the intention of returning to BiH, pleading guilty by agreement, and cooperating with the judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bosnia and Herzegovina and its institutions have become a significant partner at the international level, as evidenced by the fact that international investigations and operations are being conducted, and that the prosecutor's office and partner institutions actively participate in several international operations aimed at combating terrorism, cooperating with agencies from the USA, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Serbia, Turkey, and other countries.

Information on security-relevant individuals and potential terrorist threats is received and exchanged almost daily.

Officials from police and security agencies in BiH have expressed full commitment to intensive cooperation in the fight against terrorism in the upcoming period.

Tomorrow, the chief prosecutor will also discuss activities in the fight against terrorism and other forms of organized crime with a high-level delegation from the Republic of France.
