(Patria) - The Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes, after receiving the written copy of the verdict, filed an appeal against the first-instance verdict of the Court of BiH by which the accused Ristanić Đorđe was acquitted of charges for the criminal offense of crimes against humanity committed in the area of Brčko.
The appeal was filed due to a significant violation of the provisions of the criminal procedure, violation of the criminal code, as well as an incorrectly and incompletely established factual situation. The filed appeal requests the Appellate Panel of the Court of BiH to grant the appeal and revoke the first-instance acquittal verdict.
The Prosecutor's Office of BiH accuses the accused Ristanić that, in the period from April to December 1992, as part of a widespread and systematic attack directed at the Bosniak and Croat population in the area of Brčko and its surroundings, in his capacity as president of the War Presidency of the Municipality of Brčko, he participated in a joint criminal enterprise and committed grave violations of the provisions of international law and the Geneva Conventions on the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.
The appeal was filed with the Appellate Panel of the Court of BiH.
