Prosecutor's Office of BiH in the Memić case opened an investigation for organized crime, covering a larger number of persons!

SARAJEVO, (Patria) – A meeting was held today at the Prosecutor's Office of BiH between the father and sister of the murdered young man Dženan Memić, their lawyer Ifet Feraget, and the Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH Gordana Tadić and the prosecutorial team working on the Dženan Memić case. 

After the meeting, which lasted an hour and a half, Muriz Memić confirmed that an investigation for organized crime has been opened in the Dženan Memić case. 

„For three and a half years I have been saying this, and today it came true. I am not a fool, Ifet is not a fool, and we have been telling the truth from the beginning. Perhaps from today, the rule of law may begin to function. The Chief Prosecutor showed she is brave. I owe great gratitude to investigator Nermin Halilagić and prosecutor Ćazim Hasanspahić and other prosecutors. This will take a long time, but it has started,“ said Memić, adding that he cannot speak about details from the investigation.

The lawyer for the Memić family, Ifet Feraget, said that the evidence speaks for itself.

„From the beginning, it was clear that Dženan was murdered. Whoever investigated the traffic accident consciously and deliberately covered up the murder. I am glad that an investigation has finally been opened for organized crime in connection with the Dženan Memić case. The topic of the meeting was also Dženan Memić and David Dragičević. Gordana Tadić and I agreed that the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Banja Luka should submit the David Dragičević case for review to the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, which is actually competent to handle organized crime cases,“ said Feraget.  

Feraget confirmed that the investigation will continue and will cover a larger number of persons. He could not speak about names. 

„We will never be winners. Dženan is gone, David is gone. This is not the job of a lawyer but of a prosecutor. I need neither glory nor the media, but if I have eased the family's burden a little, that is some satisfaction for me. We are defeated because there is no rule of law in this country, but this is a glimmer of hope. The international community is behind us,“ said Feraget. 

He added that this investigation will have certain repercussions on the case against Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović, which is being conducted in a retrial at the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo for causing a traffic accident. 

The Memić family, in October 2018, filed a criminal complaint with the State Prosecutor's Office against more than 40 persons, led by the then Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of the Sarajevo Canton, Dalida Burzić, whom they accuse of filing a false indictment for a traffic accident and covering up the murder of Dženan Memić.
