Prosecutor's Office of BiH seeks custody for Turkish citizen Batuhan for smuggling illegal migrants

(Patria) - Acting within the scope of prosecutorial duty, a prosecutor from the Prosecutor's Office of BiH has submitted a proposal to the Court of BiH for the detention of the suspect Ozdemir Batuhan, born in 1999 in the Republic of Turkey, a citizen of the Republic of Turkey, who was apprehended by police officers of the BiH Border Police - Velika Kladuša.

The suspect was apprehended while smuggling 22 illegal migrants in a van with BiH license plates, in the border area in the municipality of Cazin.

The migrants are from the Republic of Turkey and did not meet the conditions for legal entry and stay in BiH, which is contrary to Article 6 of the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea and Air, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, as well as the provisions of the Law on Border Control of BiH, and they were handed over to the BiH Service for Foreigners' Affairs for further processing.

The measure of detention has been proposed due to the reasons described in Article 132, Paragraph 1, Point a) of the Criminal Procedure Code of BiH, namely due to the risk of the suspect, who is a foreign national, absconding.

The suspect is charged with the criminal offense of human smuggling under Article 189 of the Criminal Code of BiH.

The proposal for the detention measure has been submitted to the Court of BiH.
