Prosecutor's Office of BiH: 600 indictments for war crimes raised

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH has reached the number of 600 indictees for war crimes and serious violations of international humanitarian law, and the accused have so far been finally sentenced to 2,087 years in prison.

Convictions in war crimes cases, based on indictments by the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, have been handed down in more than 80% of cases.

The Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, Goran Salihović, said that prosecutorial decisions have been made in all Category 2 cases, which were forwarded from the Hague Tribunal Prosecutor's Office as the most complex cases for processing by the BiH judiciary.

Salihović said, among other things, that the fight to ensure war crimes do not go unpunished is one of the primary missions through which "we strive to strengthen the rule of law on the European path of our country and remove the burden of war crimes, which burdens relations in our country, by prosecuting only responsible individuals for the crime."

- The Prosecutor's Office of BiH has intensively developed regional cooperation in efforts to prosecute war crimes, and the exceptionally good relations with partner prosecutor's offices have resulted in the prosecution of war crime perpetrators throughout the region, so we thank our colleagues in Belgrade, Zagreb and Podgorica for their cooperation, which will continue intensively with even greater intensity in the coming period.

It is important to us that future generations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, children and young people, on whose lives the horrors of war crimes have left a mark and consequences, no longer live in fear of war crime perpetrators who move freely, and that everyone who has committed a crime receives a deserved punishment and that in this process there are no untouchables - it is stated.
