A prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH has filed an indictment against Izet Arifović, Suad Smajlović and
Amir Salihović, reports the BiH news agency Patria.
The aforementioned are accused that, as members of the Army of RBiH, in the area of Srebrenica, they acted contrary to the provisions of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions on the protection of civilian persons during wartime.
They are charged that, on July 12, 1992, during an attack on the village of Zalazje, after which a group of 8 civilians of Serbian nationality, with their hands tied, who had previously surrendered, together with four dead bodies, were brought on the bed of a truck to the police station in Srebrenica, the accused Izet Arifović, by firing a firearm from close range, killed one civilian of Serbian nationality, and the accused Salihović, took the remaining prisoners away on the truck in an unknown direction, after which they were no longer seen alive, so that after the war, the remains of some of the victims were found and exhumed, while the remains of others are still being searched for.
The accused Izet Arifović and Suad Smajlović are charged that, after the arrival of the truck, the accused Arifović brought two civilians of Serbian nationality out of the police station, after which he took an automatic rifle and, by firing a firearm from close range, killed two civilians, and after their bodies were loaded onto the truck, the accused Smajlović, noticing that one of the victims was showing signs of life, fired a burst, and thus killed two captured civilians.
Izet Arifović is also charged that on June 21, 1992, in the place of Ratkovići, he committed the murder of a civilian of Serbian nationality, Prodanović Živan, who had previously handed over his weapon and was sitting with his hands tied, after which the accused approached him, ordered him to stand up and killed him by firing a firearm.
The accused Smajlović is charged that on July 12, 1992, on the bed of a truck where the bodies of killed civilians of Serbian nationality were located, as well as living prisoners, he fired a burst from a firearm at the bodies of the killed.
Among the captured civilians of Serbian nationality were Simić Branko, Simić Petko, Rakić Miodrag, Tubić Miladin, Cvjetinović Ivan, Gligić Nedeljko, Jeremić Marko, Gligorić Ljubiša and Vujadinović Dragomir.
The accused are charged with having committed the criminal offense of war crimes against the civilian population.
The acting prosecutor submitted a proposal to the Court of BiH for the imposition of prohibitive measures against the suspects, which will, among other things, include a ban on leaving their place of residence, a ban on meeting with witnesses and the accused, and periodic reporting to the competent police institution. Incidentally, this trio was released today.
