Prosecutor's Office of BiH to reach 5,000 accused this year

Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Goran Salihović, along with deputy chief prosecutors and associates, held a large collegium of all employees of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, reports the news agency Patria.

The topics of the collegium related to the results achieved in the first quarter of 2016, plans for results by the end of the year, as well as an increase in the scope of results compared to previous years.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH will reach the figure of 5,000 accused persons in the history of this institution by the autumn of this year, which is certainly a significant result for the institution of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and the entire judicial system of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bearing in mind that the accused persons are charged with war crimes, organized crime, corruption, terrorism, financial crime, human trafficking, international smuggling of narcotic drugs and other criminal offenses within the jurisdiction of the prosecutor's office, this result truly speaks to the great work and dedication of prosecutors, associates, investigators and all employees of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.

Also, this year, the figure of 600 accused for war crimes and serious violations of international humanitarian law will be reached, making the Prosecutor's Office of BiH the institution with the most accused for war crimes in the world, after the Second World War and the Nuremberg and Tokyo Tribunals.

The collegium presented activities related to the renovation of the capacities of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and preparations for the start of construction of the new prosecutor's office building.

It was also highlighted at the collegium that prosecutors who were appointed several months ago to the Terrorism Section have begun intensive work on cases, which will contribute to the fight against terrorism and the prevention of terrorism and activities related to terrorism, as well as the departure of BiH citizens to foreign war zones.

Given the increase in the number of prosecutors, it is expected that the results of the work of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH this year will be extremely good.
