Bosnia and Herzegovina Prosecution Requests Detention for Retired General Sakib Mahmuljin

The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has requested detention for retired General Sakib Mahmuljin. This was confirmed to the Bosnian news agency Patria by General Mahmuljin's attorney Fahrudin Ibrišimović.

Mahmuljin's arrest has stirred passions in the public, with many claiming that this arrest in some way seeks to equate the role of the aggressor and those who defended Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Attorney Ibrišimović earlier stated that Mahmuljin's defense believes there is no need to propose detention, but the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina decided otherwise.

Mahmuljin is currently in the detention unit in Sarajevo.

We recall, by order of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the former commander of the 3rd Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sakib Mahmuljin, was deprived of his liberty this morning. He is charged with war crimes committed by the “El Mujahedin” unit.

The suspect is under investigation and is suspected of acting contrary to the provisions of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions in his capacity as commander of the 3rd Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
