Prosecutor's Office of BiH: Inspector Leaked Information on Operations to Criminals, Evidence Found During Searches

(Patria) - Acting on the order and in coordination with a prosecutor from the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton arrested a police inspector of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, suspected of the criminal offenses of violating the secrecy of proceedings, aiding perpetrators after committing a criminal offense, and embezzlement in office.

The police inspector is suspected of having, for the purpose of gaining illegal financial benefit, for a longer period, disclosed information and data about police operations and activities to individuals from the criminal milieu and suspects of serious criminal offenses and organized crime.

Within the scope of work on cases codenamed "Rez", "Nevera", and "Bumerang", the investigation documented that the suspect was in contact with several individuals who are members of organized crime structures, and his corrupt actions compromised and hindered certain operations in cases of combating perpetrators of organized crime in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The suspect will be handed over to the acting prosecutor during the day, who will decide on further actions against the suspect after the interrogation.

This activity demonstrates the determination of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton in the fight against corruption and organized crime, especially against individuals who abuse their police positions and capacities to protect and support organized crime, thereby harming all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Prosecutor's Office of BiH announced. 

The Police Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton stated that A.P. (born 1979), a police officer of the Criminal Police Sector of the Police Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, was arrested on suspicion of committing criminal offenses under Article 237 and 232 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina ("Violation of the Secrecy of Proceedings" and "Aiding a Perpetrator After Committing a Criminal Offense") and Article 384 of the Criminal Code of the Federation of BiH ("Embezzlement in Office").

"Upon the order of the Court of BiH, a search of the apartment, office, and official vehicle used by the individual was conducted, during which certain evidence related to the committed criminal offenses was found. After being arrested, the individual was placed in the detention facilities for arrested persons of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, and after criminal processing, will be handed over to the further jurisdiction of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
