Ramiz Ahmetović, president of the Association of Families of Missing, Forcibly Detained and Killed Bosniaks, reacted publicly, demanding an investigation into the role of Dragan Vasiljković, known as Captain Dragan, and his responsibility for what the Red Berets unit did under his command.
"As an association, we are monitoring the activities of the prosecutors' offices of BiH and Brčko District of BiH regarding the detection and prosecution of perpetrators of war crimes against Bosniak civilians in Brčko. We have long awaited a reaction from the competent prosecutors' offices regarding the case of Dragan Vasiljković, known as Captain Dragan, who is suspected of committing a war crime in Croatia and was extradited to the Republic of Croatia by the Australian judiciary, because there are indications that he was in Brčko at the beginning of the war in BiH with his paramilitary formations called the Red Berets, and that he provided support to Serbian paramilitary formations in instructions for forming special units in Brčko, which would later take non-Serb civilian population to camps, where they were subjected to torture and executions.
Interesting is the lack of reaction from the Prosecutor's Office of Brčko District of BiH and the Prosecutor's Office of BiH regarding the possible extradition of Captain Dragan to the BiH judiciary, where he would be tried for participation in preparing and committing war crimes against non-Serb civilians in Brčko.
The public is not sufficiently informed about the attitude of the Prosecutor's Offices towards this case, especially in the context of the existence of a signed agreement on cooperation between the prosecutors' offices of BiH and Croatia, which can be concluded from the response of representatives of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH to a Patria journalist that they have no comment on the question of whether any examination of Vasiljković has been initiated, whose name is linked to numerous crimes committed in Brčko as well.
We hereby request an engaged approach from both prosecutors' offices, so that all organizers and perpetrators of war crimes against innocent Bosniak civilians are brought to justice," requested Ramiz Ahmetović, president of the Association of Families of Missing, Forcibly Detained and Killed Bosniaks of Brčko District.
"A crime is a crime and deserves investigation and truth. No one knows under what conditions Dragan Vasiljković was extradited from Australia to Croatia, but the crime on the corridor from Semberija to Knin was also part of a unified war strategy of the same unit. As for the Prosecutor's Office of Brčko DC, even much smaller criminals, unfortunately, remain unprocessed," states Ahmetović's reaction.
