SARAJevo, (Patria) - The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court is seeking the court's approval to investigate alleged war crimes in Ukraine, reports Reuters.
Prosecutor Karim Khan spoke on Friday, expressing concern about Russia's war against Ukraine and saying the court could investigate war crimes arising from the invasion.
"The next step is to continue the process of seeking and obtaining authorization from the Pre-Trial Chamber of the Court to open an investigation," Khan said today about seeking approval for the investigation.
Lithuania had previously called on the ICC to open an investigation into war crimes committed by Russia and Belarus in Ukraine, and Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte told the Washington Post: "What Putin is doing is just murder and nothing else, and I hope he will be in The Hague."
