Tusk: Russian ship from 'shadow fleet' conducted suspicious maneuvers in the Baltic Sea

(Patria) - Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated yesterday that a Russian ship from the "shadow fleet", which is under EU sanctions, was conducting "suspicious maneuvers" near the power cable connecting Poland with Sweden.

"After an effective intervention by our military, the ship sailed towards one of the Russian ports. The Polish military ship 'Heweliusz' is sailing towards the scene of the incident", Tusk stated on platform X.

The "shadow fleet" consists of old, dilapidated ships sailing under the flags of third countries, most often African, which Russia uses to circumvent sanctions, according to the Polish agency PAP.

These ships sell Russian oil at prices above the established limit, usually without insurance, meaning there is no accountability in case of an environmental disaster.

The EU and Great Britain announced new sanctions against Russia on Tuesday, which will include more "shadow fleet" ships.
