(Patria) - Poland will seek to gain access to nuclear and other unconventional weapons, including participation in the French nuclear umbrella initiative, said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
- We must be aware that Poland needs to seek access to the most advanced capabilities, including those related to nuclear weapons and the most modern unconventional weapons.
We will not fear anyone's criticism. Everything that contributes to strengthening defence capabilities will be implemented and used - Tusk told the lower house of parliament, as reported by TASS citing the TVP Info television channel.
He added that Poland is conducting "serious talks" with the French regarding their nuclear umbrella project.
According to Tusk, political negotiations with France on the nuclear umbrella are "at a very advanced stage".
He also said that he will have to hold detailed consultations with the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff on the specific consequences of Warsaw's participation in this initiative.
In an address to the nation on March 5, French President Emmanuel Macron spoke about growing threats to Europe and France, including from Russia, justifying the need to increase defence spending.
He stated that he wants to continue supporting Ukraine in its war with Russia and announced plans to launch talks with allies about placing European countries under the protection of French nuclear deterrence forces.
