(Patria) - Poland will not send troops to Iran because the conflict does not directly affect its security, said the country's Prime Minister Donald Tusk today, adding that the US and other powers understand Warsaw's decision.
US President Donald Trump called on allies over the weekend to help secure the Strait of Hormuz as Iranian forces continue to attack the key waterway amidst the US-Israeli war against Iran, which has entered its third week.
- The Polish government does not plan any expedition to Iran, and this does not raise any doubts among our allies - Tusk said before a government meeting.
He also said that this applies to land, air, and naval Polish military forces, which are still being built up due to the conflict around the border with Ukraine.
Tusk stated that securing the Baltic Sea remains a central element of Poland's strategy.
Numerous other US allies, including Germany, Spain, and Italy, have said they have no immediate plans to send ships to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has blocked with attacks and threats of attacks.
