A Turkish ship carrying 10,000 tons of humanitarian aid for Gaza has docked in the Israeli port of Ashdod, reports the British Guardian, according to NAP.
The ship set off for its destination late on Friday from the Turkish city of Mersin. The Turkish news agency Anadolu writes that the ship docked after a 35-hour journey.
Otherwise good relations between Turkey and Israel were disrupted in 2010 by the Israeli raid on a Turkish ship carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza, during which 9 Turkish citizens lost their lives.
The ship was unloaded this morning, and the humanitarian aid, which includes food, clothing, and footwear, will be transferred by trucks through Israel to Gaza.
With the delivery of humanitarian aid arriving just before the start of Eid al-Adha, relations between Israel and Turkey have been symbolically renewed, writes the Guardian.
