Turkish police arrest 35 journalists over alleged links to military coup

Turkish authorities have issued arrest warrants for 35 journalists and media workers, as part of the purges undertaken in the country following last year's failed military coup attempt, reports the Patria agency.

Turkish police conducted raids in Istanbul to apprehend the suspects, who allegedly used an encrypted messaging application that, according to police sources, enabled communication between followers of Fethullah Gulen, whom Turkey suspects of orchestrating last year's military coup.  

Among those arrested is Burak Ekici, a journalist for the opposition newspaper Burguna.

In the past year, over 50,000 people have been arrested in Turkey, while 110,000 people have been dismissed from their jobs.
