(Patria) - Turkey has discovered new natural gas reserves in the Black Sea that will meet its household energy
needs for more than three years, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday.
"We have discovered 75 billion cubic meters of new natural gas. With this amount, we will meet the needs of our homes for about 3.5 years," he said, AFP reported. Erdogan estimated the value of the reserve at around 30 billion dollars.
"Our work on the Goktepe-3 well, which began on March 27 with our seventh-generation drilling ship Abdulhamid Han, was completed yesterday," he said.
Turkey remains heavily dependent on imports to meet its energy needs, although Erdogan has emphasized Ankara's desire to achieve energy independence.
"We will continue on our path without stopping, without rest, and without paying attention to criticism or obstacles until we achieve our goal of a completely energy-independent Turkey," he said.
