Turkey rejects Trump's plan for displacing Palestinians

(Patria) - Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Wednesday rejected US President Donald Trump's plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza, calling it "unacceptable" and even discussing it "wrong," Anadolu reports.

Speaking at the AA editorial desk, Fidan said Turkey opposes all initiatives that seek to "exclude the people of Gaza from the equation in the region," reaffirming commitment to Palestinian rights.

He warned that the world is moving towards the "law of the jungle," where no one considers the needs of others and applies the philosophy of "I do it because I am strong."

Earlier this month, Trump sparked debate and concern by suggesting that Palestinians in Gaza should be relocated to Jordan and Egypt, calling the enclave a "demolition site" after the Israeli war. His proposal, however, was sharply rejected by Amman and Cairo.

On Tuesday, Trump said at a press conference in Washington with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US would "take over" Gaza after relocating Palestinians elsewhere under an extraordinary reconstruction plan he claimed could turn the enclave into the "Riviera of the Middle East."

"We oppose all initiatives that seek to exclude the people of Gaza from the equation," Fidan said regarding Trump's statements.

The Syrian administration after Bashar al-Assad has no plans that would include a federation or autonomous regions, Fidan said, speaking about neighboring Syria.

He added that Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara's stance on the terrorist group PKK/YPG is "extremely clear" and meets Turkey's security needs.

He also said that Syria needs to return or "eliminate" all PKK terrorists who came from different countries, "in order to ensure its national unity."

Regarding the fight against terrorism in the region, Fidan announced steps to establish a joint mechanism between Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Jordan to combat the terrorist group ISIS.

He also announced a meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, which is expected to be held in April.
