Turkish authorities have blocked access to Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook to prevent further dissemination of images published by the three social networks, showing the image of the Turkish prosecutor kidnapped by terrorists. The image shows prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz, with the kidnapper holding a gun to his head, reports the Patria News Agency.
On April 6, Turkish providers banned social networks where the image appeared, due to complaints they received.
Speaking to "Hurriyet", the General Secretary of the Union of Internet and Service Providers (ESB), Bulent Kent, emphasized that they continue to ban posts with the controversial image.
According to the decision of the Turkish authorities, "Hurriyet" reports that a total of 166 websites that published the controversial image will be blocked.
Two militants, members of the Revolutionary People's Liberal Party (DHKP-C), took prosecutor Kiraz, the investigator in the controversial murder case of Berkin Elvan in Gezi Park on March 31, hostage.
After an eight-hour drama, the attackers were killed, and the prosecutor died from his injuries.
On April 1, representatives of 13 Turkish media outlets and journalists were denied the right to participate in a press conference due to the publication of the controversial image, with a gun held to the prosecutor's head. They were also denied the right to attend the funeral at the Eyup Sultan Mosque.
Ahmet Davutoglu, the Turkish Prime Minister, confirmed that he had revoked their accreditations.
