(Patria) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan converted the world-famous Hagia Sophia in Istanbul from a museum into a mosque in mid-2020.
Entry was free after that change, but this will soon change for tourists.
Erdoğan then reassured the public that entrance fees would be abolished, and that the cultural monument was open to everyone - Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
From January 15, a major change will occur again: entry to Hagia Sophia will be restricted and visitors will have to pay for it again.
