Tourist plane crashes into residential area, three dead

Three people lost their lives when a tourist plane crashed into a residential area of Tokyo, and the impact sparked a fire that engulfed several houses and cars, local Japanese media reported, according to the Patria news agency.

The aircraft crashed around 11 a.m. local time after taking off from Chofu Airport, TV network NHK reported. Two passengers on the plane, which was carrying five people, and one resident of the neighborhood on which the plane fell were killed, while five people were injured, the TV network reported, citing a police report.

At least three houses caught fire in the crash, and roofs of surrounding houses were damaged, a fire department spokesperson said. TV footage shows the overturned plane lying on the remains of a burned house, with firefighters and rescue services trying to extinguish the blaze.
