Trump administration considers closing offices in Banja Luka and Mostar

(Patria) - The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is considering closing 30 American embassies and consulates.

Among them are two offices of the U.S. Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina - in Banja Luka and Mostar, according to a State Department document obtained by CNN.

Embassies recommended for closure include those in Malta, Luxembourg, Lesotho, the Republic of the Congo, the Central African Republic, and South Sudan.

The list includes five consulates in France, two in Germany, two in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and one each in the United Kingdom, South Africa, and South Korea.

It also proposes reducing the presence in diplomatic missions in Somalia and Iraq, as well as "redistributing" other diplomatic posts.

CNN notes that it is unclear whether the closures have been approved by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The changes come amid an expected reform of the U.S. diplomatic agency, driven by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) supported by Elon Musk, with drastic changes aimed at reducing the federal government.
