(Patria) - US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, plans to visit Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a person familiar with the plans said.
Witkoff, who is officially Trump's envoy for the Middle East, is playing an increasing role in efforts to end the three-year war in Ukraine, Reuters reports.
The person, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed Bloomberg News' report on Monday that Witkoff will go to Moscow for talks with Putin, but did not have further details.
Trump has expressed a desire to meet with Putin and, since taking office in January, has continued his efforts to reverse the poor relations with Russia from the previous Biden administration.
Witkoff met with Putin in Moscow last month and brought home American school teacher Marc Fogel, who was sentenced to fourteen years in prison in Russia after being detained for possessing medically prescribed marijuana.
