Trump: We are ending the era of endless wars

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - US President Donald Trump, facing criticism over plans to withdraw nearly 10,000 soldiers from Germany, said today that his job is to defend America's vital interests, not to wage wars in distant lands.

"We are ending the era of endless wars," the US president told a thousand cadets at West Point military academy.

He added that the task of an American soldier is not to rebuild international relations but to "defend and strongly defend the American nation from foreign enemies," Reuters reports.

"It is not the job of the US military to resolve old conflicts in distant lands that many people have never heard of," he emphasized.

He also touched upon the debate on racial inequality in the US, saying that the cadets are an example of American diversity.

"You came here from farms and from cities, from big and small states, of different races, religions, and colors. But when you entered this complex, you became part of one team and one family that proudly serves the American nation," Trump said.
