Trump threatens Cuba: Deal or no more money and oil

(Patria) - Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel rejected the threat of US President Donald Trump that Cuba will no longer receive oil and money from Venezuela, adding that the US has no moral authority to force Cuba into any deal.

US President Donald Trump warned Cuba on Sunday that it will no longer receive oil or money from Venezuela, suggesting that the communist island strike a deal with the United States before it is too late.

"Cuba is a free, independent, and sovereign nation. No one dictates to us what to do," Diaz-Canel said on X.

"Cuba is not attacking, the US has been attacking Cuba for 66 years. Cuba is not threatening, it is preparing and ready to defend the homeland to the last drop of blood."

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez wrote in a separate post on X on Sunday that Cuba has the right to import fuel from any supplier willing to export it. He denied that Cuba had received financial or other "material" compensation in exchange for security services provided to any country, including Venezuela.

Venezuela is Cuba's largest oil supplier, but no tankers have departed from Venezuelan ports for the Caribbean country since US forces intercepted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in early January and are blocking the ports of the OPEC member, according to shipping data.

Meanwhile, Caracas and Washington are progressing in concluding a $2 billion deal for the supply of up to 50 million barrels of Venezuelan oil to the US, with the revenue to be deposited into accounts supervised by the US Treasury Department, a major test for the relationship between Trump and interim president Delcy Rodriguez.

Trump previously posted on the Truth Social network with the message:

"THERE WILL BE NO MORE OIL OR MONEY GOING TO CUBA - ZERO! I strongly suggest they make a deal BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. For many years, Cuba has lived off large quantities of OIL and MONEY from Venezuela," Trump added.
