Trump imposes tariffs on European partners: 'They will pay until we take Greenland'

(Patria) - US President Donald Trump announced a wave of increased tariffs on European allies until the United States is allowed to buy Greenland.

In a post on the Truth Social network, Trump said that 10% tariffs would take effect on February 1 for Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland.

"These tariffs will be increased to 25 percent on June 1 and will continue to apply until an agreement is reached on the US purchase of Greenland," Trump said.

He accused several European countries of playing a "very dangerous game" in Greenland, saying that "world peace is at stake".

"Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland have gone to Greenland with an unknown purpose.

These countries, playing this very dangerous game, have taken an unacceptable risk," the US president wrote in a long post on his social network.

"For years, we have subsidized Denmark, as well as all EU countries and others, by not charging them tariffs or any other form of compensation.

Now, after centuries, it is time for Denmark to reciprocate - world peace is at stake!

China and Russia want Greenland, and Denmark can do nothing about it. They are currently protecting it with two dog sleds, one of which was only added recently.

Only the United States, under President Donald J. Trump, can play this game - and very successfully!

No one will touch this sacred piece of land, especially since the national security of the United States and the security of the world as a whole are at stake.

On top of all this, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland have traveled to Greenland, for reasons unknown.

This is a very dangerous situation for the security, protection, and survival of our planet. These countries, engaging in this extremely dangerous game, have brought the level of risk to a point that is neither acceptable nor sustainable.

Therefore, it is necessary that, for the protection of global peace and security, strong measures be taken to end this potentially fatal situation quickly and without any doubt.

Starting February 1, 2026, all the aforementioned countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland) will be charged a 10 percent tariff on all goods sent to the US. From June 1, this tariff will increase to 25 percent.

The tariff will be charged until an agreement is reached on the complete and final purchase of Greenland.

The United States has been trying to complete this transaction for over 150 years. Many presidents have tried, and for good reason, but Denmark has always refused.

Now, due to the Golden Dome and modern weapon systems, both offensive and defensive, the need to acquire it is particularly important.

Hundreds of billions of dollars are currently being spent on security programs related to the 'Dome', including the possible protection of Canada, and this extremely brilliant but very complex system can operate with maximum effect and efficiency - due to angles, measures, and boundaries - only if this territory is also included in it.

The United States is immediately open to negotiations with Denmark and/or any of these countries that have questioned so much, despite all that we have done for them, including maximum protection, over many decades."
