Trump warned BRICS countries not to create a new currency

(Patria) - Newly elected US President Donald Trump yesterday asked BRICS member countries to commit to not creating a new or supporting another currency as a replacement for the US dollar, warning them that they would otherwise face 100% tariffs.

"We ask that these countries commit to neither creating a new BRICS currency, nor supporting any other that would replace the mighty US dollar, or they will face 100% tariffs and must expect to say goodbye to sales to the great American economy.

Let them find other suckers. There is no chance that BRICS will replace the US dollar in international trade, and any country that tries will say goodbye to the US," Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social.

BRICS refers to the original members of the intergovernmental group of five economies - Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. It also includes Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates.
