(Patria) – US President Donald Trump has warned the Syrian regime and its allies to stop the killing of 'thousands' of civilians in the province of Idlib.
Trump said via Twitter 'don't do it', while accusing Russia and Iran, along with the government of Bashar al-Assad, of 'killing, or preparing to kill' civilians.
Trump also said that Turkey is working to stop the 'massacre' that has forced at least 100,000 civilians to flee their homes in this northwestern province.
Dozens of people have lost their lives in a series of bombings in the area after Assad's army intensified attacks on Idlib with the aim of capturing the last stronghold of the opposition, which is currently home to about 3 million Syrians.
The Syrian government explains the attacks as a fight against terrorists in Idlib.
International humanitarian organizations warn that if the attacks continue in the coming weeks, hundreds of thousands of civilians could be displaced, without shelter, food, and water.
Russia's ally Turkey, which Trump praised in his Twitter post, has so far been unable to stop the violence, writes CNN.
Turkish President Erdogan stated that Turkey, which hosts 4 million refugees from Syria, is unable to accept new migrants and can no longer bear the burden alone.
