Trump warned Republicans: I will be impeached if we don't win the midterms

(Patria) - US President Donald Trump issued a dramatic warning to members of his party today, saying Republicans must secure victory in the upcoming midterms or they will face impeachment by the Democrats, Reuters reports.

- You have to win the midterms because, if we don't win the midterms, it'll be simple - I think, they'll find a reason to impeach me. I'll get impeached - Trump stated at a meeting with Republican House representatives in Washington.

He called on fellow Republicans for greater unity on key issues, from gender policy to healthcare and electoral reforms. He emphasized the need to present their policies more decisively to the public, which is frustrated by the rising cost of living.

The fate of Trump's political agenda also depends on the outcome of the November elections, in which all members of the House of Representatives and one-third of the senators will be elected.

During his speech, Trump predicted an "epic victory" for the Republicans, but at the same time expressed concern about the historical precedent whereby the incumbent president's party usually fares poorly in the midterms.

- They say when you win the presidency, you lose the midterms. I'd like you to explain to me what the hell is going on with the public's mind - Trump said.

Although Republicans in the House of Representatives have largely shown great respect for Trump so far, they have recently begun to show signs of independence.

The House of Representatives may vote this week to override Trump's veto last month on water supply projects in Colorado and Utah, although it is unclear whether this attempt will receive the necessary two-thirds majority.

Let us remind you, Trump was already impeached twice in the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives during his first term from 2017 to 2021, on charges of abuse of power in the Ukraine case and on the eve of the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021.

In both cases, he was acquitted by the Senate, where Republicans held a majority.

In addition to boasting about a recent military operation in Venezuela, which he described as extremely successful and tactically brilliant, Trump also touched on lighter topics during his speech to Republicans, which lasted just over an hour and a half.

After speaking about Venezuela, Trump talked about his own dancing at political rallies, revealing that his wife Melania is not at all impressed by this part of his performances.

- My wife hates it when I dance - Trump said during a speech at the Kennedy Center, adding that she has told him many times that such behavior is "not presidential".

He described Melania as a very elegant person who believes that presidents should not dance on stage, and even asked him: "Can you imagine Franklin D. Roosevelt dancing?"

Trump recounted that he replied that times are different and that the audience likes his dancing, although she, as he claims, retorted that people are just being polite.

Despite her disapproval, Trump said he would continue because his supporters enjoy it, reminding that dancing to songs like "Y.M.C.A." has become a trademark of his campaign rallies.

Trump also found time during the hour and a half he spent on stage to engage in a vulgar, and often repeated, quip about an alleged transgender weightlifter who, after transitioning from male to female and competing in the women's category, broke a long-standing record.

The only thing he didn't mention today, which everyone was expecting, was - Greenland.
