Trump ahead of meeting with Putin: I want a ceasefire in Ukraine today

(Patria) - US President Donald Trump, ahead of his meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska, stated that he wants an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine.

He emphasized that his main goal is to stop the killing and that he will not be happy if it does not happen immediately.

Trump told reporters on Air Force One about his expectations, emphasizing his desire for an immediate ceasefire.

When asked what he would consider a success of today's summit, Trump was clear - "I want to see a ceasefire".

He said he does not want Europe to direct him.

- This has nothing to do with Europe. Europe does not tell me what to do, but it will be involved in the process, obviously, as will Zelensky. I want a quick ceasefire - Trump emphasized.

He emphasized the urgency of the situation, expressing impatience.

- I don't know if it will be today, but I won't be happy if it's not today. Everyone said it can't be today, but I just say I want the killing to stop - Trump stated.

He explained that his main motive is to stop the suffering.

- I'm in this to stop the killing. What interests me is that last week they lost 7,011 people, almost all soldiers; then 36 people in a city hit by a missile. More than 7,000 soldiers, that's crazy - Trump said.

He also touched upon the financial aspect of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

- You know, we don't invest any money. We make money. They buy our weapons, and we send them to NATO, and NATO sends us big, nice checks. But I'm not interested in that - Trump concluded.
