(Patria) - U.S. President Donald Trump will soon sign an executive order to lift sanctions on Syria, the White House announced.
This move is a continuation of Trump's decision in May to lift measures when he said he wanted to "help Syria rebuild after the devastating civil war," Reuters reminds.
The U.S. President's executive order, which he will sign tonight, maintains sanctions against former Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, his aides, and Iranian allies.
Also, as reported by the media, the Trump administration is conducting "preliminary talks" with Israel and Syria on a potential security agreement between the two countries. Axios quotes an Israeli official who assessed that "an agreement with Syria is not around the corner" and that it will take time to achieve significant progress.
