(Patria) - US President Donald Trump stated that he "convinced himself" not to undertake military operations against Iran, partly due to Tehran's announcement that it would not execute arrested protesters.
- Nobody convinced me, I convinced myself - Trump said, CNN reports.
He stated that Iran's decision not to execute arrested protesters led him to abandon military interventions.
- They planned to hang 800 people yesterday, and I really respect the fact that they cancelled that - Trump said.
Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday about the Iranian crisis, and the Israeli Prime Minister allegedly asked him to suspend military action to give Israel more time to prepare for potential Iranian retaliation.
US officials say military action remains an option if Iran continues to kill protesters. Israeli officials believe that, despite the delay, a US strike could be carried out in the coming days.
The Israeli government is concerned that the Iranians might use such negotiations to gain time and ease US pressure.
