Trump in Iowa Responds to Biden: Everything is a Mess Under His Term

​(Patria) - Donald Trump used his first visit to Iowa this year to attack Republican competitor Nikki Haley and hit back at Democratic President Joe Biden, who had previously described him as a threat to American democracy, Reuters reported.

Speaking to several hundred supporters ten days before the crucial first round of the Republican nomination contest in Iowa, the former president presented a dark portrait of the United States. He called it a "failing" nation, burdened by "terrorists" and immigrants from "mental asylums" pouring across the US-Mexico border.

He struck back at Biden, who spoke about the dangers of a potential second Trump term at an event in Pennsylvania. Biden, who is likely to face Trump in a rematch in the November elections, was particularly critical of Trump's behavior on January 6, 2021, when a mob of his supporters attacked the US Capitol while lawmakers were certifying Biden's victory in the 2020 elections.

"Nothing has gotten better under crooked Joe Biden. Everything is a mess," Trump told supporters at a rally in the rural northwest of the state.

Trump also turned his fire on Haley, who served as the US Ambassador to the UN for two years during his term. While Haley trails Trump by over 30 points in Iowa, she is much closer in New Hampshire, which holds the second contest in the Republican nomination process, and has been rising in the polls in recent months.

"Nikki Haley has had her entire career in the pocket of donors for establishing open borders," Trump said.

"She is a globalist," he added.

Haley's team fired back, citing her work in South Carolina where she was governor.

"Donald Trump probably doesn't remember that Nikki Haley passed one of the toughest laws against illegal immigration in the country in 2011, while he was still a liberal in New York," said Communications Director Nachama Soloveichik.
