Trump fires Cybersecurity Agency Director Chris Krebs

(Patria) – US President Donald Trump has fired the director of the federal agency after he testified that the 2020 presidential election was held in accordance with regulations, thereby refuting claims of electoral fraud.

Trump announced on Tuesday via Twitter that he had dismissed Christopher Krebs, director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (Cisa) within the Department of Homeland Security. He also stated that Krebs's recent statement confirming the security of the election was "very inaccurate".

Trump had also dismissed Secretary of Defense Mark Esper earlier.

According to Western media reports, Krebs expected to lose his job. Last week, his agency issued a statement confirming that US voters were not defrauded.

"The election held on November 3 was the most secure in American history," the Cybersecurity Agency statement read. "There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost ballots, or was compromised in any way."

Krebs, a former senior Microsoft official, led the agency known as Cisa from its inception in 2016, during the period of alleged Russian interference in US elections, up until the November elections. He was valued by senior officials from both parties as Cisa coordinated federal and local activities to defend election systems from foreign and domestic interference.

Krebs's dismissal has drawn much criticism from the Democratic Party, as well as from prominent Republicans like Ben Sasse, a senator from Nebraska, who stated that Chris Krebs "did an excellent job" and "should not have been fired".

Krebs said via Twitter that it had been "an honor to serve".

Trump has still not conceded defeat in the election and continues to claim he lost due to electoral fraud.
