Trump returns to X, posts mugshot and seeks campaign donations

(Patria) - Former US President Donald Trump returned to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, with a post on Thursday showing his mugshot from his booking at the Fulton County jail in Georgia earlier that day, Reuters reported.

With a post calling for donations, Trump regained direct access to the public on the platform that banned him after his supporters attacked the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

The San Francisco-based app reversed its stance on November 19 under billionaire Elon Musk, a self-proclaimed "free speech absolutist" who bought Twitter on October 2.

Trump, who had over 88 million followers when Twitter banned him, posted a mugshot on Thursday with the words: "ELECTION INTERFERENCE! NEVER SURRENDER!" The post garnered more than 14 million views 50 minutes after being published.

Twitter permanently suspended Trump's account in January 2021, citing the risk of further incitement of violence after the attack on the US Capitol.
