Trump with Zelenskyy, EU leaders, Rutte: We are working for the same goal

(Patria) - US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, EU leaders and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte sat down at the table in the White House. Earlier, Trump spoke with Zelenskyy.

- Thank you for all the wonderful things that happened today. So far we have had a very successful day and important talks as we work to end the killings and stop the war in Ukraine - Trump said at the start of the summit.

He added that everyone is "working for the same goal" and reiterated that after the meeting he will speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He also said that Putin agreed to provide security guarantees for Ukraine. He stressed that he expects European countries to take on the bulk of the burden: "We will help them and we will make it very safe."

Trump also said that one of the topics of tonight's meeting in Washington will be the division of responsibilities among partners. However, he also emphasized that there must be discussion about "possible exchanges of territory," taking into account the current front lines.

- That means the war zone, the lines of war that are now quite obvious. It is very sad to see them, but they determine the negotiating positions - he said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also shared his impressions of the meeting with the media.

- We discussed very sensitive points. The first is security guarantees. We are very happy that all the leaders are here with the President. Security in Ukraine depends on the US, on you, and on the leaders who are with us - Zelenskyy said.

He stated that everyone wants to end this war and stop the Russians, adding that he is ready for a meeting with Putin.

- We will discuss security guarantees further. It is very important that the US sends such a strong signal and is ready for security guarantees - Zelenskyy emphasized.

He also thanked Melania Trump for the letter she sent to Putin regarding the abducted Ukrainian children.

- As for sensitive issues, territorial and others, they will be discussed at the level of leaders during the trilateral meeting that President Trump will try to organize - Zelenskyy stated.

Earlier, speaking alongside Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office, Trump left open the possibility of long-term US involvement in security arrangements for Ukraine - including US forces on the ground.

This represents a significant change from the beginning of the year, when such an idea was completely unacceptable for the US President.

The talks at the White House are attended by Mark Rutte, Friedrich Merz, Emmanuel Macron, Ursula von der Leyen, Giorgia Meloni, Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, as the Coalition of the Willing who came to support Zelenskyy and convey the position of the European Union.
