(Patria) - US President Donald Trump says there is no need for Congressional approval for war against Iran given that there is a ceasefire, Al Arabiya reported.
"There has been no exchange of fire between United States forces and Iran since April 7, 2026. The hostilities that began on February 28, 2026, have been ceased," Trump said in a letter to Congress.
The US President sent a letter in accordance with the War Powers Resolution, which allows the president sixty days of conflict before seeking Congressional approval.
Nevertheless, Trump said that the US military is updating its presence in the Middle East "to confront the threats from Iran and Iranian proxy forces and to protect the United States and its allies and partners."
On April 7, Trump declared a two-week ceasefire, which was later extended. However, no agreement has been reached between Washington and Tehran, and Trump has vowed to maintain a naval blockade of Iran until such an agreement is concluded.
