Trump said Vance is his likely successor in 2028.

(Patria) - US President Donald Trump suggested that Vice President JD Vance
is "most likely" his successor for the Republican candidate in 2028, which is the furthest he has gone in supporting Vance as a future presidential candidate, Reuters reported.

"Well, I think he's the most likely," Trump told reporters when asked if Vance was the successor to the movement he inspired.

"Frankly, he's the vice president."

Trump also suggested that Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio join forces for a future Republican ticket.

Although the 2028 race is still years away, Trump has significant influence over the Republican base and any sign that he endorses a candidate carries significant implications.

Trump has previously refused to offer any support for a successor in 2028. In
February, he said Vance was "very capable" but that it was too early to name him a leading
candidate.

Vance, a forty-year-old former Marine, has built a significant role in the Trump administration, serving as a key diplomat and chief advocate in promoting Trump's domestic and foreign policy.

Rubio, a former senator from Florida, has emerged as a significant figure in the administration. He is the first person since Henry Kissinger to serve as both Secretary of State and National Security Advisor.
